With the latest release of a new Android phone for Verizon's Droid product line, America's largest wireless company has really pushed back hard against companies like AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, and Apple.
While there is more and more speculation each day on whether an iPhone will finally arrive on Verizon, it seems that the carrier has moved on.
Teaming up with HTC and Motorola, Verizon now has a killer line of high-end Android based smartphones on the market.
Last fall the HTC built Droid Eris and the Motorola Droid were released to much fanfare, as users applauded Verizon's choice to relinquish total control over the software available on its wireless phones.
The Motorola Droid has since become a major hit, selling at a rate only the iPhone can best.
But with the Motorola Droid getting a bit older, Verizon decided to supplant the Droid with the remarkably fast and slim HTC Droid Incredible.
While receiving rave reviews, the Droid Incredible has suffered from a backlog that is causing consumers to wait weeks to get their hands on the new phone.
It's unfortunate, from a business perspective, that Verizon chose to go ahead with the launch of a product knowing there weren't enough units available for demand. Then again, maybe that's the plan as to create hype and more demand? Who knows.
Whatever the case, the Droid Incredible is an awesome product, and one that shouldn't be surpassed until the EVO 4G arrives. The Droid Incredible will certainly help Verizon maintain momentum, but the long wait to get one is not helping Verizon gain further momentum in the face of an imminent new iPhone and the EVO 4G.
